The Antique Phonograph Tradition since 1979
Phonovention is THE event for Antique Phonograph and Record enthusiasts. Once a year, the Michigan Antique Phonograph Society (MAPS)
hosts this event. This year, the Hoosier Antique Phonograph Society (HAPS) is co-hosting with grateful assistance from the Wisconsin
(WIMAPS) Chapter of MAPS. The very first Phonovention took place at Jackson, Michigan in August 1979. It featured a Saturday flea
market, banquet and dance to the Victrola (members brought dance records). Johnny Johnson and Art Miller were the hosts.
Phonovention
2008 will be held in the spacious Rotunda of the War World II Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana. Vendors will have tables offering
everything your antique phonograph heart could desire. Display tables will surround the outside walls with prime examples of exquisite
machines from private collections. This event is perfect for the novice to the hobby, as this is a great opportunity to meet the Who’s
Who in the field and get answers to all your questions.
This year, the featured speakers at the Banquet will be Paul Ladd, Scott Malawski
and Robin & Joan Rolfs. Among other topics, they will discuss how the Indiana and Wisconsin chapters got their start, and where
our passion for collecting these antique audio technologies will take us from here.
You certainly don’t want to miss Al Gentry’s presentation
on the Starr Phonograph and Gennett Records on Friday evening.
